Cannikin Nuclear Test Site
The largest underground nuclear test conducted by the United States, Project Cannikin was one of three underground nuclear tests performed at different places on this 43-mile long island in the Aleutian Chain. This $200 million 1971 test was performed to test an Anti-Ballistic Missile warhead, for a Spartan ABM missile. It consisted of a 5 megaton-yield thermonuclear bomb, detonated in a 50-foot diameter chamber, at the bottom of a 5,875-foot shaft. The island of Amchitka was a military outpost in WWII, and the air field and base camp from that facility were reused for the nuclear testing program.
Tom worked in the Chamber for months as many other men did at 5, 875 feet straight down in the earth. There was radiation from previous and other explosions on the Island that went into the drinking water. Many men lost there lives later in life because of cancer and other sickness. Tom lost his Father to cancer. Tom had cancer but was able to overcome it. His two brothers are currently sick all of the time. His younger brother also had cancer but was able to overcome it as well. Tom has three other brothers who were not on the Island and all are healthy and cancer free.
Tom was on a crane that loaded the Anti-Ballistic Missile warhead, for a Spartan ABM missile. It consisted of a 5 megaton-yield thermonuclear to be lowered down the shaft.
Tom and his six brothers did there military duty during the time of the Korea era up till the Seventies and luckily they all came home safe.
After completing his military time Thomas Barth started Gifting Warriors.
Gifting Warriors is a non-profit organization. Tom Barth is a veteran whose family served our country for generations and instilled in him a deep respect for the cost of our freedom. The owner of Barth Crane Inspections for 13 years, Tom is recognized as one of only a few federally accredited crane inspectors and crane operator trainers. Over the years, he earned a solid reputation in the legal community for his expert witness testimony and developed a passion for teaching, training, serving his community and his country. It is that passion that led him to create Gifting Warriors.
Gifting Warriors is a call to action to provide living assistance and job placement assistance for veterans transitioning from active duty to civilian life. Our veterans, many with physical wounds or suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), face unique challenges when returning to civilian life. Many face an uncertain job market. Some struggle to find affordable housing or to feed their children. Gifting Warriors can be their lifeline, providing immediate assistance when existing programs are unable to help.
Tom invites and challenges you to join him and his network of supporters—as an individual or company—in helping us give back to those who sacrificed their lives, limbs, bodies, families and time.
